The country, located in North Africa, benefits from a Mediterranean coastline giving visitors fantastic opportunities for beach holidays in Tunisia. Hammamet, not far from the capital Tunis, is the perfect example of the stunning white sands and crystal-clear waters Tunisia has to offer. It’s also ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving, with a whole underwater world to discover.
More watersports adventures can be enjoyed at Monastir, further south along the coast, where water-skiing and surfing are typical pastimes, while head further south still to Djerba for rest and relaxation, ideal for couples to have some downtime.
But it’s not all about the beaches in Tunisia. Capital city Tunis is bursting with tradition and charm. The narrow, winding alleys of the Medina are truly Arabic in style and, relatively untouched by tourists, it remains true to its heritage. By day, you’ll find market stalls, aromatic street food and streets dedicated to shops selling specific items, but by night, you’ll experience a much quieter pace of life, with only restaurant-goers and hookah-smokers remaining.
Star Wars fans also won’t want to miss a trip to the small towns of Tozeur and Nefta, near the eastern border, which also make for great days trips for kids during family holidays in Tunisia.
Situated within 25 kilometres of each other, it’s easy to visit both in one day, allowing you to pose with buildings from the fictional planet of Tatooine in the former and the original movie set for the home of Luke Skywalker in the latter.
