Canada

Moose, black bears and poutine. That pretty much sums up holidays in Canada, right? Well, that, plus the world’s most spectacular scenery, dynamic cities and adrenaline-pumping activities. And even then, we’re only scratching the surface.

It may be subjective to say Canada boasts the most jaw-dropping, heart-stopping scenery the world has to offer, but we’ll happily take on anyone who disagrees (with a big ice hockey stick!). A quick Google of Banff National Park is enough to prove the point and a visit to the Canadian Rockies deserves to be top of any bucket list.

Take a trip on the Banff Gondola, which transports you more than 2,000-feet to the top of Sulphur Mountain, where visitors are treated to spectacular views across six mountain ranges and the Bow Valley.

The Valley of the Ten Peaks is another spot where a fully charged camera and spare batteries is a necessity. Gaze across the mesmerising Moraine Lake, with the backdrop of 10 mountains reflected across its surface.

Cave and Basin National Historic Site is a good place to learn more about Banff National Park and why and how the Canadian National Park system came into being. Plus there are hot springs to enjoy too. The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies also provides interesting insight into the history of the area.

It also goes without saying that such an extensive mountain range will give amazing opportunities for outdoor adventures. Skiing, snowshoeing and sleigh rides in the winter and hiking and mountain biking in the summer are just a few of the activities on offer.

On the other side of Canada, you’ll find another spectacular natural sight at Niagara Falls. The best views of the falls can be enjoyed from the Canadian side, and it’s also close to a quaint town called Niagara on the Lake, which is worth a visit.

You’ll most likely be based in nearby Toronto for a Niagara visit, and the city itself is a hive of activity for Canadian holidays. Head to the top of the CN Tower for brilliant views, while the brave can try their luck at standing on the glass-bottomed floor, a casual 342-meters above the ground.

The city is ideal for family holidays in Canada, with Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, various seasonal activities at the Distillery Historic District and the nearby theme park Wonderland among the top attractions. If you’re in town over the summer, you can even catch a baseball match at the Rogers Centre, home of the Bluejays.
