Bhutan

Nestled in the heart of southern Asia, bordering India and China, is the untouched nation of Bhutan, patiently awaiting your visit.

Packed full of colour, Buddhist traditions and stunningly pristine natural landscapes, holidays in Bhutan are for the pure of heart and mind. While in this landlocked country you won’t find luxury cruises, sumptuous beaches or cosmopolitan cities, what you will discover is a nation enveloped in beauty, both in terms of its people and places.

Bhutan holidays are all about the great outdoors, with the locals placing a high value on sustainable tourism and eco-friendly practices. It’s written into law that at least 60% of the country must remain forested for the benefit of future generations.

This provides breath-taking (quite literally!) opportunities, such as a trek through the Jigme Dorji National Park, or for the brave (some might say crazy), you can even take on Bhutan’s legendary Snowman Trek, one of the most challenging of the Himalaya. But the effort is rewarded with hidden valleys, mountain views and high-altitude lakes. You can even explore the myths and legends which engulf the Land of the Thunder Dragon, such as the presence of the elusive Yeti.

The people of Bhutan live by the philosophy of ‘Gross National Happiness’. You’ll find beautiful monasteries, such as the cliff-side Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, meandering rivers and famous festivals celebrating the nation’s ancient history, which dazzle with colour and energy. Even the airport terminal is a traditional Bhutanese building.

Travel in Bhutan is different in many ways to what you’ll experience in most of the world’s destinations, not least the fact that everything is included within the cost of your holiday. We’re not talking an all-inclusive style resort, however, more an all-encompassing pass to discover and be at one with the beauty of Bhutan. From your airfare, to accommodation, meals, transport, sightseeing with a dedicated guide and all other fees, it’s all thrown in.
