Paris

France, Paris

An Overview

It may be known as the city of romance and culture but Paris holidays have so much to offer everyone, from couples to families, culture vultures to outdoors enthusiasts, and those looking for quiet city breaks in France to party animals looking for great nightlife.

Things to do

Obviously there are the key attractions which are the top of any list when on city breaks in Paris. The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Louvre are three bucket-list spots, and while sadly the Notre Dame Cathedral isn’t quite the sight it was before a fire destroyed large parts of it in 2019, visitors can still walk past and see the reconstruction taking place.

Another great way to see all Paris’ main sights is to take a cruise on the River Seine, which is a particularly spectacular and romantic trip at twilight, especially if the weather is Paris is good. Back on dry land, you can also walk the banks of the river and browse the Bouquinistes, a UNESCO World Heritage site selling used books, magazines and artwork.

To escape the tourist crowds but still enjoy a relaxed waterfront atmosphere, the Canal Saint-Martin is the place to go. Popular with locals, its boutique shops and cafes are an ideal way to relax over a Parisian coffee and pastry.

Nightlife

If you’re looking for a more lively evening, the Champs-Elysees is a great area for great nightlife, while another popular night out is to experience the world’s most famous cabaret at Moulin Rouge.

Something different

Meanwhile, for a completely different experience during Paris city breaks, visit the Catacombs, where human remains are buried under the streets of Paris. Apparently this is a fun and incredibly popular thing to do! If you’re after more underground delights, you can also tour the Paris sewer system. No, honestly! Just don’t forget your nose peg.

Disneyland Resort

Of course, family holidays in Paris simply have to include a day or three at Disneyland Paris. Located just outside the city, the magic of the place is infectious. But if you want a different theme park experience, Parc Asterix is a great alternative, with no mouse ears in sight. The Jardin d’Acclimatation and Parc Zoologique are other popular spots to take the kids.
