Florida Holidays

An Overview

Probably the best place to visit for family holidays in the USA, Florida is jam-packed with thrills, spills and Mickey Mouse.

The Weather

Florida isn’t known as the Sunshine State for no good reason. Depending on what part of the state you visit, the climate is referred to as either subtropical or full-blown tropical, so you’ll already have a good idea of what the weather in Florida has in store. Throughout summer, it can get stiflingly hot, with heavy but short thunderstorms, so often the best time to visit is between February and May.

Where to go & What to see

Holidays in Florida – kids or no kids – simply have to include Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The magic is tangible and it’s impossible not to get swept up in it. Stay on-site to fully immerse yourself in the Disney experience and get great access to the Resort’s four theme parks and two water parks. Don’t forget your Mickey ears!

Nearby, you’ll also find the excellent Universal Studios and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which has a few more grown-up rollercoasters for adrenaline-seekers, while the infamous International Drive connects Disney and Universal via a whole host of other theme parks, attractions, restaurants and hotels.

A touch of history can be soaked up at St Augustine, believed to be America’s oldest city. The gorgeous Spanish colonial architecture makes it just as enchanting as Disney World.

And no trip to Florida is complete without experiencing an airboat ride through the swamps of the stunning Everglades. Just watch out for the ‘gators!

The sheer scale of Florida means it can be tricky to cover more than a couple of places during a getaway, but that’s simply a great excuse to keep penciling in Florida holidays time and time again.

The Beaches

For beach holidays in Florida, Miami is the must-visit destination, while for something a bit more educational, a trip to the Kennedy Space Centre should be near the top of your hit-list.
