Spain Holidays

An Overview

Spain is consistently among Europe’s most visited destinations year-on-year and with its eclectic range of picture-perfect holiday options, it’s easy to see why Spain holidays are a firm favourite. Fiestas and flamenco, seafood and sangria, mountains and matadors – Spain’s culture and landscapes are as diverse an offering as you’ll find in a single country.

Regardless of whether you’re keen on a week on the beach with sangria in hand, looking for a cultural stroll around a historic city, an active island adventure or a gastronomic feast, Spain holidays have it covered.

We’ve already got our bags packed (toothbrush pending, of course…), but if you need a little more convincing, we’re happy to oblige.

What to do & Where to go

When considering holidays in Spain, it’s easy to be distracted by the sandy beaches, blazing sun and long, sweeping Mediterranean coast. And with the beauty of the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and Costa Bravo as just a sample of the options, who are we to argue?

But Spain beach holidays only scratch the surface. The European hotspot is rich in culture and history, which can be explored until the heart’s content in the capital city Madrid, where art lovers will be bewitched by the works of Picasso and Velázquez, among others.

Head further south to the Andalucía region where Seville, with its famous flamenco culture and striking Metropol Parasol structure, is guaranteed to steal your heart.

For a combination of beach and city break, Barcelona is the obvious choice – but it comes with an intriguing twist. As the capital of the Catalan region, the city’s heritage and customs present a unique side of Spain, making it a fascinating proposition for those wanting to delve deeper into the country’s culture. Cava is among the produce born from the region, while it also boasts its own language, traditional dance and even Christmas customs to explore.

Explore

But as with any holiday destination, the real hidden gems lie off the beaten track. For a more temperate climate than southern areas, coupled with rugged, mountainous landscapes and stunning medieval architecture, the northern towns of San Sebastian and Bilbao offer something more serene. While these areas are gradually becoming more popular among holidaymakers, there’s still time to explore the Basque Country in all its authentic beauty.

Music festival lovers, meanwhile, will feel the temptation of Benicassim, which is held every July just north of Valencia. Speaking of which Valencia, as the home of paella, is also the perfect destination for foodies. Gastronomy fans will be spoilt for choice throughout Spain, with tapas, seafood, oranges and olives among the country’s most famous mouth-watering exports.

Family time

Those looking for family holidays in Spain may be drawn to Majorca in the Balearics – an archipelago in the Mediterranean, also consisting of Menorca, Ibiza and many other smaller islands – or Tenerife in the Canary Islands, nestled just off Africa’s north-eastern coast.

Nightlife

At the opposite end of the spectrum, it goes without saying that Ibiza is the place to be for the party-animals. But famous for its mega-clubs and lively nightlife, you could be forgiven for overlooking the other side of the island too, with its quaint fishing villages and peaceful yoga retreats.

With culture, history, art, architecture, music, food, outdoor adventures, beaches, family fun and nightlife to choose from, we’re pretty sure Spain will have something to give you itchy feet. But if not, we’ll happily try it on your behalf and let you know how great it was!
