Costa Daurada Holidays

An Overview

South of Barcelona, Costa Daurada stretches along the coast of Spain’s Catalan region, taking in the city of Tarragona, along with a number of beautiful beach resorts. Costa Daurada holidays are simply a glorious mix of golden sandy beaches, outstanding architecture and fun activities for all the family.

Costa Daurada literally translates as ‘Gold Coast’ and it’s as alluring as it sounds. The region gets its name from the way the sandy beaches glisten and shimmer when hit by the sun. This stretch of coast also enjoys around 300 days of sunshine per year, making it an idyllic holiday destination.

Where to go & What to see

Salou is one of the most popular resorts among families. It boasts numerous child-friendly beaches and with calm and shallow waters, is great for swimming too.

PortAventura World, located just outside of Salou, is famed for being Spain’s biggest theme park and is a great day out during family holidays in Costa Daurada. As an alternative, Ferrari Land is situated next door, while also in Salou, Aquapolis Costa Dorada is a fun way to cool off from the Costa Daurada weather.

For something a little quieter, head just south of Salou to Cambrils. The traditional fishing port is gorgeously quaint and picturesque, while its impressive stretch of pristine white sand acts as a tonic for any ailment. Here, you’ll also find Parc Sama. The botanical garden is an oasis of tranquillity, with a lake, waterfall and numerous plants to wander round.

There’s also plenty of stunning architecture to admire during Costa Daurada holidays. The Gothic Tarragona Cathedral is a beautiful example, while the city is also home to an Ancient Roman Amfiteatre, located right behind the beach.

In nearby Reus, birthplace of Antoni Gaudi, you can also explore a museum with exhibits about the life and works of the world-famous architect.

Further inland, the UNESCO World Heritage site, Poblet Monastery, is a must-visit and a great excuse for escaping the crowds along the coast too.
