As a city oozing culture, world-famous sites, sumptuous cuisine and even beaches, Barcelona city breaks are a must, not only in Spain or Europe, but across the whole globe.

For a combination of beach and city break, it’s impossible to look beyond Barcelona – and it comes with an intriguing twist. What to do & Where to go

It’s also packed with culture. Among its most famous sights is La Sagrada Familia. The unfinished Basilica is one of Gaudi’s most iconic pieces of work an is expected to be completed by 2026, with construction work having started more than 100 years previously.

But it’s just one of several Gaudi-designed buildings to enjoy during city breaks in Barcelona. UNESCO World Heritage site Casa Batllo and Casa Mila can also be added to your Gaudi tour, while Park Guell is a beautiful public space housing Gaudi-designed sculptures and mosaics, as well as his house.

Culture vultures can also add the Picasso Museum to their list of must-see attractions, while the cultural hub La Rambla is worth taking the time to walk along and perhaps people-watch outside one of the many bars or restaurants.

Football fans can take a tour of the legendary Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona. It might even be possible to get tickets for a match if your visit falls within the football season.

Beaches

Barcelona holidays also have to involve a trip to the beach. Barceloneta Beach is the city’s most popular among tourists, with its beautiful stretch of golden sand, while Nova Icaria Beach is a quieter but no less glorious option, perfect for family holidays in Barcelona.

What to eat

Another great thing about holidays in Barcelona is the food. Be sure to sample some of the local Catalan delights while in town, including bombas, calcots and esqueixada de bacalla.
