Alicante Holidays

An Overview

Located on Spain’s Costa Blanca, Alicante has a bit of a reputation for being all about the beaches, nightlife and touristy spots, but to write the city off would be a huge disservice, as Alicante holidays have an abundance of history, culture and stunning natural landscapes to experience, not to mention a stunning coastline.

Where to go & What to see

El Barrio, Alicante’s Old Town, is the perfect place to being exploring. Simply take an afternoon to wander the narrow, cobbled streets and enjoy a spot of people-watching outside one of the bars or restaurants in the plazas and squares.

You can then opt to walk the steep hill or take the elevator to Castillo de Santa Barbara, which surveys the city below from the top of Mount Benacantil. The 9th century castle is remarkably well preserved and is one of the best things to do in Alicante.

After dark, certain areas of Alicante come alive. The Marina, while picturesque by day as the yachts go by, is also the city’s nightlife hub and the place to head if you’re looking for lively bars and clubs.

The Beaches

The Alicante Tram is a great way to take in the breath-taking views along the Costa Blanca coastline. A trip on the tram can either be used as a sightseeing excursion, or to get to San Juan and its spectacular beaches, or to head further to Altea, a quaint and picturesque town which makes for a lovely day trip away from the hustle and bustle.

Whether you head along the coast to San Juan or stay in the heart of the city, family holidays in Alicante simply have to include some time at the beach. Playa del Postiguet is the city’s main beach and its stretches of sand seep along the coast before connecting with San Juan. The central spots can get busy, but take a short walk along the promenade for something a little more serene.
