What to do & Where to go

Rich in history and culture, Lisbon boasts an ancient castle, sweeping city squares, traditional Fado music and eclectic nightlife. But hop on a train or bus and within an hour you can be sunning yourself on a sandy beach in the picturesque fishing town, Cascais.

Head a couple of hours south along the coast and you’ll reach the Algarve region, with the popular destinations of Lagos, Faro and Albufeira among its armoury, perfect for Portugal beach holidays.

Algarve is also home to world-class golf courses, so you can unleash your inner Tiger Woods and work on your handicap.

If you’re planning on a good meal being just the start of your night, Portugal won’t disappoint. Praia da Rocha, Albufeira and Lagos are all booming party resorts, attracting youngsters from allover Europe to the neon-lit ‘strips’, while trendier, more refined bars can be found in Porto and Lisbon.

What to eat

Portugal holidays are, in a nutshell, an access-all-areas pass to some of the best food, scenery and UNESCO World Heritage sites in Europe and beyond.

Despite the differences between the city sights of Braga or the rolling hills of the Douro Valley, what remains a constant across Portugal is the delicious food and wine.

If you’re partial to a slice of Madeira cake or a tipple of Madeira wine, we’ve got the perfect destination for your next holiday – Portimao. Just kidding! Of course, Portimao is great for music festival fans, but otherwise, the rugged, charming islands of Madeira, off the north coast of Africa, should be right up your street.

Portugal has a long Atlantic coastline making it a haven for fresh seafood, with sardines a particular delicacy when in season between March and October. They’re such a staple, you’ll find images of them on a lot of souvenirs and even an entire shop dedicated to them in Lisbon – great for a quirky gift.

And while in Portugal – and particularly the Belem district of Lisbon – you cannot leave without tucking into a traditional ‘Pastel de Nata’ or ‘Portuguese custard tart’. You can thank us later!

Portugal is also famous for piri piri (yes, better than Nandos) and Portuguese wine, particularly in Porto – hence, ‘port’ – and the nearby Douro Valley, where you can enjoy excellent wine tours and tastings.

What’s the weather like

To cap it all off, glorious weather is almost a guarantee in Portugal. Sounds perfect? We think so too.

Lisbon and the Algarve are two of Portugal’s most popular holiday spots.  Because they offer a complete contrast, they highlight the exciting opportunities the country has to offer – and you’re never too far away from any of it.

Portugal is famous for it’s clear blue skies and high summer temperatures, ideal for sunbathers.  Beaches line the Atlantic Ocean, providing warm breezes and beautiful sunny beaches.
