Small but perfectly formed, the secret is well and truly out when it comes to the delights on offer in majestic Montenegro – so what are you waiting for?

Holidays in Montenegro can take in charming old towns and beautiful, rugged Adriatic beaches, but it’s the natural scenery in-land which steals the show and has turned the quiet whispers about this spectacular country into booming loudhailer announcements.

In the north of the country, Durmitor is a breath-taking national park, boasting hiking trails, kayaking opportunities and mountaineering among an idyllic, glacier-formed setting where you’ll feel completely at peace with the world.

Within the national park, Black Lake is one of the most serene locations in Montenegro. In fact, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say it’s among the most peaceful and beautiful spots in the whole of Europe, complete with its spectacular mountain backdrop.

If the Grand Canyon in the USA is a little far to travel, Montenegro has a great alternative. Tara Canyon is the second deepest in the world, where white-water rafting is a popular activity, as well as cliff jumping and swimming.

Near the coast, Lovcen is another impressive landscape to enjoy outdoor pursuits and explore the vast plant species – of which there are more than 1,000.

Beach holidays in Montenegro are somewhat surpassed by the wealth of dramatic jaw-dropping scenery elsewhere in the country, but for those keen on some time catching the rays and gazing out across the Adriatic Sea, there are several gorgeous options.

Long Beach, towards the Albanian border, is among the best Montenegro has to offer, while Pearl Coast and Sutomore Beach are two more beauty spots.
Culture vultures will certainly want to spend some time in both Budva and Kotor, as popular as day trips from Dubrovnik in neighbouring Croatia as they are as city breaks in Montenegro in their own right.

In Kotor, the Old Town is charming and perfect for strolling around at a leisurely pace, admiring the Venetian architecture, old churches and museums. Budva, meanwhile, is full of fantastic restaurants and bars, and is certainly the place to be when the sun goes down.
