The harbour city of Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, is a beautiful place to experience the magic of the Emerald Isle.

Eyre Square is the historic and cultural hub of the city and you’re bound to find yourself wandering through at some point during your stay. As well as a leafy slice of heaven, you’ll also find the Quincentennial Fountain and several playgrounds, great for family holidays in Galway.

Quay Street is the place to go to experience a true bit of traditional Irish culture, with plenty of Irish pubs to choose from in the heart of Galway’s Latin Quarter.

Along the River Corrib, Galway Cathedral is a must during holidays in Galway. The beautiful architecture and stained glass is a highlight of the city. Elsewhere, Galway Atlantaquaria is the National Aquarium of Ireland and boasts native Irish sealife.

But the true beauty of Galway lies within the surrounding natural scenery, which is everything you’d expect from mesmeric Ireland.

Whether or not the boys of the NYPD choir are still singing Galway Bay, it provides picturesque views out across the ocean, not least from Salthill Promenade, while if you can make the hour or so drive to Diamond Hill in Connemara National Park, the scenery will take your breath away.

If you’ve got time to explore a little further afield, head to Rossaveel Harbour and catch a ferry over to the Aran Islands, which are especially spectacular in the summer months. The rugged landscapes are truly captivating and you’ll find a number of ruins and quaint churches to wander round, as well as plenty of sumptuous seafood to tuck into.
