Cannes

France, Cannes

An Overview

Holidays in Cannes are the perfect way to experience how the other half live. Luxury yachts, high-end restaurants, palatial hotels and boutique shops are a staple of the coastal town, but even if you’re not staying long, there’s plenty to see and do without breaking the bank.

Famed for its annual Film Festival, Hollywood-esque glitz and glamour is a year-round event in Cannes, one of the top destinations along the French Riviera.

Things to see

A leisurely stroll along the Boulevard de la Croisette is a must. Soak up the atmosphere, gawp at the gorgeous views across the Mediterranean Sea and suss out what Cannes is all about. From here, you can head to La Mairie des Cannes. The town hall was built in 1877 and is a beautiful example of 19th century architecture, overlooking the port.

The port itself, a 1950s construct, is where you can simply sit and admire – not only the sea views, but the palatial luxury yachts on display. Grab a coffee, or a glass of wine and simply sit and dream.

Things to do

For something a bit more active, head out of town to the shaded forests of La Croix-des-Gardes, where you’ll find hiking trails, lined with seasonal wildflowers, as you enjoy the spectacular views back across Cannes and beyond.

Le Suquet, the oldest neighbourhood in Cannes, is another lovely spot to amble around, admiring the 18th and 19th century architecture. If you have time, be sure to stop by one of the quaint family-run restaurants for a spot of lunch.

Beaches

While many of Cannes beaches are part of the lavish hotel resorts, Beach holidays in Cannes can also be enjoyed by those not staying in the area. Public beaches include Palge du Midi and Palm Beach.
