France, Bordeaux

An Overview

Sommeliers assemble! For wine lovers, there’s no better prospect than spending holidays in Bordeaux.

But don’t be fooled, there’s plenty of fantastic things to do in Bordeaux which don’t involve wine. And while that might sound a tad disappointing, they’re honestly worth putting the bottle down for a few hours.

Things to do

We’ll start with the main reason to visit the city. The Musee du Vin et du Negoce – or Museum of wine and trading – is the perfect place to learn about historic and modern methods of wine production across the region. And of course, any good wine museum will include tastings too.

Another great attraction is La Cite du Vin. A relatively new addition to Bordeaux’s sights, the high-tech wine museum boasts plenty of interactive exhibits and tastings (natch) in a really impressive building.

As you’d expect, there are no shortage of wine tours in Bordeaux too, many of which will include a trip to one of the many local vineyards.

Things to see

We promised Bordeaux holidays don’t have to be about the booze. No visit to the city would be complete without heading to the iconic Place de la Bourse. The city square is famed for being home to Bordeaux Palais de la Bourse and a reflecting pool – the Miroir d’Eau – which provides a perfect reflection of the classical French architecture and is especially breath-taking at night under lights.

Nearby, the imposing and unmissable Saint-Andre Cathedral and Grand Theatre de Bordeaux must also be admired for their gorgeous architecture, while Jardin Public is a lovely spot to enjoy some peace and tranquillity in beautiful surroundings.
