The Weather

Thanks to its warm, Mediterranean climate and the fact the weather in Cyprus is pretty good and reliable from January to December, with temperatures ranging from winter lows of around 17 degrees Celsius to summer highs of 31, this beautiful island can be enjoyed year-round.

The Beaches

For starters, visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful beach holidays in Cyprus. The island is blessed with numerous Blue Flag beaches, most of which can be found along the south and west coasts, stretching from Latchi round to Ayia Napa.

Latchi Beach is among the island’s lesser known, making it ideal for a bit of rest and relaxation in your own company. Nearby Lara Bay is a similar offering. Only accessibly by 4×4, it’s rugged and remote, with your only companions likely to be the resident green and loggerhead turtles.

Round towards Limassol, the dramatic landscape, wind and waves of Episkopi Beach make it a popular spot among kitesurfers, while over in the south-east corner, the golden sands and shallow, calm waters of Fig Tree Bay are perfect for family holidays in Cyprus.

Where to go & What to see

Also on the coast, Petra tou Romio, the small rock formation off the south-east shores is famed for being the birthplace of Aphrodite in Greek mythology. Aphrodite Beach provides a wonderful vantage point too.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with regards to historical sites on the island. To the west, Paphos boasts many incredible sites to visit. Kato Paphos Archaeological Park is its jewel in the crown, with ruins dating back to the Middle Ages, including the renowned Tombs of the Kings and beautifully preserved Roman mosaics.

To the east sits the destination of Limassol. Among its stand-out sites is its castle, perched in front of the picturesque marina. Dating back to at least 1228, Limassol Castle is steeped in history and fantastic features. Another historical spot is Kolossi Castle, a medieval stronghold, originally constructed in the 13th century.

Cyprus holidays also offer some spectacular hiking opportunities, making for a great way to soak up plenty of that Mediterranean sun and fresh air. The fabled Mount Olympus, in the heart of the island, has a number of trails, while it even presents skiing opportunities in winter. Elsewhere, Cape Greco National Park in Ayia Napa and Avakas Gorge near Paphos are great alternatives for a hike.

Speaking of Ayia Napa, it might feel like a bit of a 90s throwback when it comes to party hotspots, but it still ranks up there with the best of them for buzzing nightlife.
