From the intrigue of ancient hieroglyphics to the mesmerising Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt is a country full of captivating charm, and it’s ready and waiting to be uncovered – all you need to do is select one of our last minute Egypt holidays and jump on a plane.

Last minute Egypt holidays are packed full of history and culture, probably unlike anything you’ll have experienced before, which is what makes the country so fascinating and alluring.

As the oldest and last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid of Giza (part of the Giza pyramid complex consisting of three pyramids and the Great Sphinx) receives around 15 million tourists per year, so can’t really be classed as a ‘hidden gem’. For more than 3,800 years the Great Pyramid, just outside of Cairo, was the world’s tallest man-made structure, until Lincoln Cathedral eclipsed it in 1311AD. And while Lincoln Cathedral is probably very nice too, and certainly closer to home, we don’t reckon it’s quite got the same Instagram wow-factor.

Head just north of Cairo and you’ll find another ancient city, Alexandria, where the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Citadel of Qaitbay are among the beautiful sights awaiting your visit. Meanwhile, head south of Cairo to Luxor for the Valley of the Kings, where the tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922.

In fact, you can do it all in one fabulous cruise along the Nile. Rather handily, the longest river in Africa collects numerous iconic landmarks along its journey, so you’ll get a stunning viewpoint from which to see the Pyramids, the Valley of the Kings, the Karnak Temple, Dendera and so much more. Helpful that they designed it that way, don’t you think?

But last minute Egypt holidays have so much more to offer beyond stunning structures and fascinating findings, so if you’re not one for ancient history books and tan-coloured explorer hats, there are plenty of opportunities to whip out the swimming cossie and grab a cocktail instead.

With the Pyramids falling on one side of Egypt’s exciting holiday coin, it’s pristine white beaches and party districts can be found on the other. Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurghada are undoubtedly the most popular places to go for Egypt beach holidays and neither will disappoint.

As if white sand stretching as far as the eye can see, great weather and incredible views of the Red Sea aren’t tempting enough, we can also throw in some of the best dive sites around and amazing watersports opportunities. Also (thank us later), another top tip is to head 45-minutes from Hurghada by boat to Mahmya Island for a scuba diving paradise among the dolphins and rainbow fish. Both Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurghada are, perhaps unsurprisingly, both rife with places to enjoy a great night on the town, with cocktail bars, booming nightclubs, karaoke hotspots and even traditional belly-dancing shows.

For something a little more modest, but still breathtakingly beautiful, Taba will steal your heart in seconds. As well as stunning diving spots in crystal clear waters, caves, valleys and natural springs can all be enjoyed here, but head just 15 kilometres south to the Fjord of Taba for the real gift from Mother Nature.

So, whether you’ve been captivated by the idea of ancient history, Nile cruises, camel safaris, diving hotspots or energetic nightlife, you’re sure to have a ‘pharaoh’ time in Egypt.
