With some of the most postcard-worthy scenery in the whole of Europe, holidays in Greece require very little painting before you can imagine yourself stretched out on a beach of pure white sand, gazing out across crystal blue waters on one of the country’s numerous idyllic islands. Cocktail in hand, naturally.

But of course, such perfection and beauty are simply the work of a cunning and crafty tourist board using Photoshop to sell more postcards and reel in more tourists, right?

Or perhaps what lies in wait, whether in stunning Santorini, magical Mykonos or spectacular Skiathos, is more than just handy superlative alliterations, but actually breath-taking beauty and serenity that will completely sweep you off your feet.

Well, if it’s good enough for Zeus and co, it’s good enough for us!

But as mind-blowingly crazy as it sounds, Greece holidays are also so much more than just beautiful beaches on a collection of islands. We’re spoiling you here, we know!

On the mainland itself, the city of Athens is swathed in history and archaeological sites, dating back nearly 2,500 years in the cases of the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon, two of the capital’s most iconic temples.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Greek mythology is a core foundation pretty much wherever you go.

Not only is it fascinating for adults it’s also great for kids too with many Percy Jackson-themed activities to enjoy. Percy Jackson fans may also be awe-struck by many of Greece’s historic sites which may otherwise seem tedious to youngsters, such as the Temple of Poseidon and Ancient Olympia.

Back on the coast, Greece is a stunning place for a spot of sailing. But if you don’t know your port from your starboard, all is not lost, as you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to sailing tours.

They’re also a perfect option for those who, very understandably, can’t choose between picture-perfect destinations, as island-hopping is a popular activity.

With such a vast array of offerings, you’ll find the perfect getaway. Whether for family holidays in Greece, a romantic couples’ escape, self-catering holidays or all-inclusive holidays in Greece, it’s all so perfectly packaged, it may as well be wrapped in filo pastry.

Speaking of which, foodies will be in heaven whichever part of Greece best floats your sailing boat.

While many of us will enjoy tucking into hummus and tzatziki during a summer picnic, you’ll be blown away by the real thing. So much so, it may ruin Tesco’s offering forever!

In any of the country’s traditional tavernas, you’ll be met with a feast for the eyes, nose and
stomach. Think moussaka, kleftiko and souvlaki – and that’s just for starters (not literally, that would be a lot of food before the main course!). There’s also delights like baklava, Greek salad and dolmades to tuck into too.

Just go easy on the ouzo – unless you’re planning to make more of a night of it. And yet again, Greece hits the spot for those wanting more of a party atmosphere. The island of Zante (also known as Zakynthos), Malia – a nightlife hotspot on Crete – and the ‘Ibiza of Greece’, Mykonos, are themost well-known and lively, especially for youngsters.

With its ancient sites, Olympic heritage and fascinating culture, not to mention vast array of landscapes, pristine beaches and mouth-watering food on offer, you can’t fail to find your dream holiday in Greece. Just be sure to send us a postcard.
